MODULES The course comprises 3 modules and a research paper. 1 . Principles of Logistics Management Module Synopsis This module introduces students to Logistics and Supply Chain with difference strategies which a company can achieve its competitive advantage. On successful completion of this module, students should have the knowledge and understanding of the following: • Supply Chain and Logistics Model • Logistics value proposition • “Work of Logistics” which provide the five areas of logistics work including order processing, inventory, transportation, warehousing, and facility network • Logistics integration process • Logistics operational arrangements • Traditional Organization Of Logistics Related Functions versus Logistics functional Aggregation • Apple Computer Case Study |
2. Warehouse Management Module Synopsis This module introduces students to Warehouse Management with difference strategies which a company can achieve its competitive advantage. This module introduces students to the functions and operations in the warehouse covering receipt, storage and movement of raw materials or finished goods to intermediate storage locations or to final customer in a multi-echelon model of distribution. The objective of warehousing management is to help with optimal cost of timely order fulfilment by managing the resources (people, IT systems and equipment) and inventory economically. On successful completion of this module, students should have the knowledge and understanding of the following: • Warehouse Operations • Activities related to shipping, receiving & inspection • Warehouse space and layout planning • Warehouse and storage management • Material Handling • Packaging • Warehouse safety and security • Warehouse Technology |
Purchasing Management Module Synopsis This module introduces students to Purchasing Management with difference strategies which a company can achieve its competitive advantage. On successful completion of this module, students should have the knowledge and understanding of the following: • Integrated Purchasing and Supply Management Process • Case Study on “potential for profit” in purchasing management • Centralised versus Decentralised Purchasing system • Discuss the Integrated Buying Model for purchasing effectiveness • How can you develop a sourcing plan? • Implementing the purchasing role in New Product Development Process • JIT Conceptual Framework and Implementation of JIT system. • Strategic make-versus-buy decision • Discrete versus Relationship Business Strategies • Traditional versus Partnership Supply Strategies |
